We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make significant improvements in our children's education:

·         There is a new Superintendent (Dr. Arlene Ackerman) with energy and commitment to eliminating the achievement gap, and improving the quality of teaching and learning for all students,

·         The new leadership of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) has continually expressed their desire to create a world-class workforce with world-class supports and resources,

·         The School District is developing a five year strategic plan to guide their work and has asked the community to give input and support and to hold them accountable,

·         The School District and the PFT are currently negotiating their new contract, and

·         The School District will be receiving a significant infusion of money from the state's new education finance system and the federal government's economic stimulus package.

But to ensure effective changes are thoroughly implemented throughout the District, and to ensure the right changes are left on the table during contract negotiations, we need to let everyone know what we expect to see happen and that we will be watching for results.
